Unexpected Hardship Assistance
Solely supporting Ecolab employees, this program acknowledges that unexpected events and challenges occur that are beyond our control. And sometimes these events can cause financial burden. The Unexpected Hardship Assistance Program provides financial relief to global Ecolab employees through loans and grants to help manage through such times.
Examples of Unexpected Hardship
Include:
- Chemical dependency and Addiction
- Divorce (abuse, neglect, addiction)
- Death in the family/funeral
- Sudden illness or medical disability
- Medical emergencies
- Home repairs related to natural disasters (flood, fire, hurricane, etc.)
- Temporary shelter, food, water, etc. due to natural disaster
Application Process
Visit Academic Assistance tab to complete correct application. Supporting only Ecolab employees: To apply for HARDSHIP assistance through the Ida C. Koran Trust, start by filling out the initial inquiry form with a thorough explanation of the event that caused your financial hardship and its impact on you and your family. Upon reviewing your inquiry form, the Trust Administrator will contact you to discuss your situation further. Depending on the outcome of the conversation, the Trust Administrator may send an application and budget form for completion. All information is confidential.

If you are an active global Ecolab employee, submit initial inquiry form to the Ida C. Koran Trust. This is for hardship assistance only. Visit the academic assistance tab for that program application. The Trust Administrator will contact you to further discuss your situation. Depending on the outcome of the the conversation, the Trust Administrator may send an application and budget form for completion. Application process typically takes 10-14 workdays.

The Trust Committee will review your application & request additional information, as needed.

After application review, the Trust Administrator will notify you as to whether or not your applications has been approved or denied.

Award Amounts
Award amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis. Assistance is available in the form of low interest loans or grants for urgent, time-sensitive financial needs resulting from an unplanned event.
Eligibility
To be eligible for assistance through the Ida C. Koran Trust, you must be a current employee of Ecolab or a retiree of Ecolab with at least 12 months of continuous service. Employees from companies acquired by Ecolab are eligible for the Trust's programs once the acquisition is finalized.

The employee's daughter had chronic health issues requiring multiple hospitalizations which had exhausted their medical insurance coverage.

60 employees and their dependents were affected by forest fires on two major islands in Indonesia.

An employee was in need of dental surgery to repair the alignment of his jaw. There is no dental insurance support in Brazil.

The Ida C. Koran Trust provided assistance to an associate to help with medical and funeral expenses incurred for his wife.

Financial assistance was provided for 10 employees affected by flooding in Chile.
